Day 21, Ukevember 2014! Bring Me Sunshine / Jive Aces

The melody from this tune kind of reminds me of Tiny Bubbles for some reason. Maybe its the 7 chords…hm…

Today’s Ukevember tune is brought to you by an ukulele student who introduced it to me! We haven’t played it together, but when/if we get back to ukulele lessons, we will definitely add this tune. BTW, Steve, I wish you were singing it and not me! 🙂

Chords to come soon.

Join me in Ukevember if you haven’t yet. The month is almost over!

Day 17, Ukevember 2014! Straight No Chaser / Thelonius Monk

Whew…this one is nowhere near the tempo it needs to be BUT it is a work in progress. I never looked at that song until the day I recorded it! As I was practicing, I noticed this is a really great tune to use as practice for moving along the fret board (the first 4 frets anyway).
I recorded this on our “Babymoon” where we took a cruise to different ports for the day. Watch the video to see where we recorded today!
Will post where I found the lead sheet soon!

Day 9, Ukevember 2014! That’s it, I Quit, I’m Moving on / Sam Cooke

Ooh, this is a good song. I didn’t give myself enough breath and the page tried to fly away, but it’s up there! I found a cover by Adele and then downloaded Sam Cooke’s original. I always think of what kind of action or movie could be done to songs…well this would make for a great break up song if you ever needed one!
Chords to come soon.
Have you uploaded a video to join in Ukevember yet this year? What are you waiting for? 🙂

Day 4, Ukevember 2014! Talk is Cheap / Eric Hutchinson

It’s Election Day! I called it ‘Voting Day’ in the video…it also means we will get all our regular commercials back. Instead of attacking each other, they will finally defeat each other and it will be over. Until the next election.

Today’s tune is by Eric Hutchinson. I’ve done songs of his before including All Over Now and Oh! back in Ukevember 2012. Click on the song titles to see those previous blog posts.

If you have any questions on how to vary your strums for recording, or if you need help finding a strum to go with your song, please leave a comment. I would love to help!

Enjoy! Maybe you’ll see another Eric Hutchinson song tomorrow!

Day 3, Ukevember 2014! Let it Be / Beatles

Another day, another video! I’ve made it past my video uploads for last year’s Ukevember (woohoo!).

Today’s tune comes from the Beatles and only has four chords (C, G, Am, F) with an added flourish chord (Dm) for some variety in the end of the verse. It isn’t needed, but I add it for fun.

I show you how to use my strum in the video. You can play this song many different ways. I chose to add a little rhythm by plucking the strings. Chords to come soon!

Have you uploaded a song yet to join me on my Ukevember adventure? Find a tune and get recording!

Day 2, Ukevember 2014! Dream a Little Dream of Me / Mama Cass Elliot with The Mamas & the Papas

Woohoo! I made it to day 2 of Ukevember. At least as much as I could get out last year ;).

Today I’m playing another swing tune favorite. In the end of the recording, my phone was buzzing –I could hear it but you can’t hear it in the video…Oh well. No more takes, here it is.

I think my favorite recording is when Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong recorded together. That’s my favorite recording to listen and dance to.

I will upload the chords later! Enjoy and add your own video to Ukevember! All you have to do is play a song on your uke in November (I’m trying all 30 days).

See you tomorrow!

Day 1, Ukevember 2014! Moondance / Van Morrison

Aloha! It’s that time again. Ukevember, my made up holiday month! The idea is to play a song on your ukulele for every day in November. That’s 30 days. You can do it! Join me and some of my other very awesome friends for this journey.

Today is our first day of Ukevember. We are playing one of our favorite songs to dance to…especially with a live band. Stay ’til the end so you can see our Bloopers. Boop! Enjoy and I’ll upload the chords soon! See you for day two!
