To put some UKE in the world

Ukevember 2016 Day 8: Waiting on the World to Change

It’s Election Day. I chose a song to say what I’d like to say to the world. DON’T wait on the world to change. I think John Mayer was writing sarcastically here, and I want to take this opportunity to say that I will try and do my part as a citizen of the United States and help in areas that I want to see change. What will you do?!

Ukevember 2016 Day 7: Puka Pants

Today’s song is brought to you by my love of listening to my grandfather play this song. Puka Pants was a traditional song for our luaus. I remember the girls dancing in practice and how funny the lyrics are. It’s quite catchy. You might get the melody stuck in your head if you’re lucky!

Ukevember 2016 Day 6: Bright

The joy of #ukevember is that 1. You get to practice every single day for 30 days! 2. You build a set of songs and by the end if you’ve been diligent, you will have 30 songs to add to your book that you have played at least once! 3. You have the opportunity to encourage others to join in on the fun. I am really excited to say that I have a friend joining me today on Day 6. My friend Jessie reached out to me and said she would want to try singing with me for Ukevember this year. I immediately said YES and she came over today and practiced a couple times and then we recorded. I was introduced to a new song, too, because of her! Enjoy. Give her some love!

Ukevember 2016 Day 5: Falling Slowly

I must admit I’ve watched a lot of American Idol. I never caught all the seasons, but I did see the season where Kris Allen won and he played “Falling Slowly” by Glenn Hansard on piano during the season. That’s when I fell in love with the song. You can also see my new little newborn in this video. 🙂

Ukevember 2016 Day 4: Fur e Reggae

I found the sheet music for this tune on Colin Tribe’s page. It take Fur Elise and makes it into a Reggae tune. Yeah! For all you classic players out there. Also, my eldest son is here joining in on #ukevember.

Ukevember 2016 Day 3: Out Loud

I had heard this song on the radio here in Arizona. I’ve also heard this song on a Pandora station I created for Eric Hutchinson. It’s also been played by musicians on patios at the restaurants here. It’s got a great groove and should be played everywhere!
Here’s my take.

Ukevember 2016 Day 2: Many the Miles

Ah, Day 2. I’ve had this song on my radar for years. I’ve used the melody in slideshows for my wedding reception, and for my brother’s 26th Birthday video because we live far apart. It’s a great song for the friends and family that are miles apart. Plus, Sara Bareilles is an amazing musician.
I’ve also gone live with #ukevember this year. Time to catch up, eh?
